Moana (Vaiana): female empowerment at Disney

Abstract

There is a consensus about the idea that the construction of identity begins in childhood. The media, together with the family, the school or the peer group take on a great relevance in the socialization process. Within these media, cinema (in this case, animation) has a great influence on the lives of boys and girls. Among other competences, it enhances creativity, but it also serves as a transmission mechanism for prejudices, stereotypes, opinions and judgments that mark the actions that boys and girls carry out during their childhood (Marín Díaz and Solís, 2017).
